Three Year Partnership Celebrated

3yrannivgroup2CIH Cymru Award winning project reaches celebrates its third year anniversary.

Greenstream Flooring CIC, Hafod, Rhondda, Newydd, Cynon Taff and RCT Homes housing associations are pleased to be celebrate the three anniversary of the Affordable Flooring Scheme.   The scheme was originally set up as 6 month pilot in April 2012 and has since hundreds of low-income tenants.

Over the last three years nearly five hundred  tenant homes  have  benefited from the scheme that has supplied over nine thousand metres square of otherwise ‘ wasted’ carpet  (ex- commercial carpet tiles) to  low income tenant from the five housing associations in South Wales.

‘Having the basic warmth, sound and heat  insulation and dignity that a carpet provides need not be an unaffordable luxury ‘ stated Greenstream’ s MD’ earlier today.  ‘We take thousands of metres a year of perfectly good carpet tiles from offices that get rid of them for aesthetic reasons only and convert them into low cost carpeting for community benefit. The affordable flooring scheme is a fantastic example of what can be achieved via partnership working and we’re extremely proud of our growing network of housing association partnerships’

The scheme has resulted in fifty seven tonnes of material being diverted from landfill/EFW all of which has been used to carpet low-income tenant homes.

‘All of the tenants who were referred onto the scheme have benefited hugely from accessing this low cost flooring scheme. It has been such a worthwhile project and it shows how working in partnership can achieve such great such success.

Jackie Holly, Community Investment Officer Newydd Housing Association

“This scheme has enabled us to help tenants when they first move into their homes for a relatively small cost. For those on low incomes it has given them the best possible start to their tenancy by saving them money and minimising the risk of an individual turning to a high interest loan. Most importantly the carpet tiles are easy to lay and bring an immediate sense of warmth and homeliness allowing our tenants to settle in quickly.”
